Cards fall to Syracuse in ACC WBB Semis 80-75 -- Sunday CARDINAL Couple
Hines-Allen's 27 not enough in loss
Louisville WBB held a 73-69 lead over Syracuse after an Asia Durr basket and free throw but watched as Syracuse went on a home-ending 11-2 run to advance to Sunday's championship.
Myisha Hines-Allen delivered another big performance with 27 points and 12 rebounds and was aided by Briahanna Jackson's 18 and Asia Durr's 23.
I'm not going to say anything else about this one in the vein of staying with our mission statement about covering the joy and excitement of women's sports at UofL.

On the other hand, Lacrosse had a fantastic win. (Thanks, Paulie for putting in a plug that Jeff needed to secure me a rain poncho. Should have skipped the b'ball game and gone out to the lacrosse field.)
ReplyDeleteAlways happy to help, Vivian. A huge win for Kellie and the Laxers. They are for real this year.

I think that Cortnee's injury hurt us throughout the game while our youth particularly hurt us at the end of the game just as it did in the Notre Dame game.
ReplyDeleteA lack of been there done that situations were not able to be ovrcome.
Sadly true. Losing that four point lead was painful to watch.

Paulie, the world didn't end yesterday. It was an exciting game between two good but not (yet) great teams - Cards were RPI 13 and 'Cuse was RPI 14.
ReplyDeleteLots to like yesterday. Durr took a big step forward offensively, Cole played well and MHA was, well, MHA.
Just like the Notre Dame game, Cards did not make any plays in the last three minutes. Great teams make those plays.
Result probably did not impact NCAA seed at all. Team will in all likelihood be a #3 and get sent to Lexington, assuming South Carolina wins today.
Totally agree w Mile D points. Also, nothing new but I was wrong about Suracuse and Miami. Both played up to rankings in tournament. I'm gonna be right eventually
DeleteVery true, Mike D. Still disappointed about the three minute collapse but you can be assured that Walz and hus staff will work hard on that and other things while they wait for Selection Night.
DeleteA lot of speculation prior to the game involved Louisville possibly getting a low #2 seed and being sent to Connecticut for the regionals. With the loss, I would guess that the Cards would drop to a three seed and maybe avoid having to play UConn in the regionals. LExington would certainly be great and if the NCAA is looking to boost attendance for the regionals....sending Louisville to Lexington would probably assure 6-7,000 Cardinal fans would make that drive to Rupp...IMHO.

Notre Dame did knock off Syracuse in the finals today 68-57. Wasn't there for it but it looks like Alexis Peterson had another huge game. I still think she's a step faster than most of the guards in the NCAA and all of Louisville's guards.

One of the positives was Taka Cole did a nice job breaking the press by herself. BJ also did pretty effortlessly. Asia is not strong with the ball. She surprises me with her mental mistakes.
