Lax Falls in OT to Cincinnati -- Volleyball Adds Setter -- THURSDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

Lacrosse Falls to Cincinnati in Overtime

After digging themselves into a hole late in the third quarter, Louisville lacrosse rallied back before falling to Cincinnati in overtime, 13-12. The Cards drop to 4-10 on the year with two games remaining.

The Cards took their only lead at 3-2 in the first quarter before the Bearcats went on a 3-0 run they would not relinquish until the final minutes of regulation.

Cincinnati went into the half up 9-5 after scoring the final two goals of the half after the Cards had cut the deficit to two.

Louisville scored the first goal in the second half, but the Bearcats scored two straight to extend their lead to five. The Cards used a 3-0 spurt to close out the third quarter and start the fourth quarter before Cincinnati broke the run with a goal. Louisville scored the final three goals of regulation over the final 8:01 to even the score and force overtime.

Cincinnati won the draw control in overtime (6:00 period) and took 62 seconds to draw a foul and score the golden goal winner.

The Cards stay home for Senior Day this Saturday against Duke at 1:00 p.m. before hitting the road to close out the regular season at Notre Dame Thursday.

Brigitta Petrenko Joins Louisville Volleyball

Louisville Volleyball picked up a setter in the transfer portal with the announcement of Brigitta Petrenko. Petrenko joins the Cards after a strong career with Coastal Carolina.

The Hungarian native logged 3,488 career assists with the Chanticleers. Last season, Petrenko tallied 1,011 assists and 50 aces. She earned Sun Belt honors in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Petrenko is expected to go straight into the battle for starting setter for the 2023 season. The Cards currently have at least three setters listed in addition to her on the roster,

Happy Thursday and Go Cards!

  1. One has to wonder just how long it is going to take until Lacrosse at Louisville starts seeing some of the successes that Field Hockey and Volleyball have in the ACC. They have the facility and fan bae. Is it a coaching and player perspective? I know Teeter gets a long leash, because he rebuilt things after the Kellie Young disaster, but does Louisville have a time frame on how long they are going to "rebuild?" Especially when programs like Clemson and Pittsburgh come on and have immediate success and defeat UofL?
