Brief Break for Women's Sports -- TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

Brief Break for Women's Sports

Following a busy weekend for many of Louisville's women's teams, they all enjoy a quick break. With no women's events scheduled Monday-Wednesday, this first half of the week is an opportune time to evaluate the opening portion of each team's respective schedules and focus on practice and training.

Louisville volleyball suffered its first regular season loss in two years and its first home loss since September 2020. Granted, the loss came to a Top-10 team and the Cards played uncharacteristically bad so the loss is one that draws a little concern. With a loaded schedule over the next few weeks, having a little time to sit down and get back to the basics should benefit the VolleyCards.

Louisville field hockey has had their hands full in the first four matches of the season- all wins- and finally prepare to return to the friendly confines of Cardinal Stadium this coming weekend. With plenty of new faces heavily involved in the rotation, the next few days will be focused on continuing to help this team gel. An interesting tidbit, counting pre-season exhibitions, the "Stick Girls" are 6-0 and five of the wins have come by the score of 2-1.

Louisville women's soccer most recently drew against James Madison to move to 3-1-1 on the season and have the quickest turnaround with a home match against Indiana on Thursday. Another team seeing a plethora of new faces in the rotation, the Cards will continue to work on meshing and focus on amping up their offense.

For the record, all three teams appear to be in much better shape than a certain men's team that confused and frustrated the Louisville fan base this past weekend at Syracuse.

From my in-person experiences at all three women's teams this year, none of the results or games raise any concern to me. Having a perfect season is nearly unheard of with most sports so early season losses should be treated more as learning opportunities and a chance to get a target off the back.

All three of our major fall women's teams will treat us to home action this coming week. Women's soccer kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night. Field hockey has home matches Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday at noon. Volleyball is at home Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Soccer and field hockey are free admission. Volleyball is a ticketed event where ticket availability remains scarce.

We'll provide plenty of in person and in depth analysis of these games as they approach.

Happy Tuesday and Go Cards!
Jared
