Lots of WBB -- Swim Finishes Sixth -- TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

Lots and Lots of Women's Basketball

The Sweet Sixteen is set. With an octet of games yesterday, we got to enjoy plenty of Monday basketball, including a 10:00 p.m. ET tip-off.

#1 NC State 89 - #9 Kansas State 57

The Wolfpack had no trouble dismantling the Wildcats.

#5-Notre Dame 108 - #4-Oklahoma 64

The Irish demolished the Sooners on their home court.

#3 Michigan 64  -  #11 Villanova 49

The Wolverines used a strong second half to pull away.

#4 Tennessee 70  -  #12-Belmont 67

A final minute that lasted the length of me taking a selfie resulted in the Vols hanging on to win with a late three.

#6 Ohio State 79 -  #3-LSU 64

The Buckeyes cruised by the Tigers to take down Mulkey in her new home.

#3 Indiana 56 - #11-Princeton 55

Defensive games are exciting (if you're me or Jeff McAdams)  and this one relied on last minute heroics by Louisville native Grace Berger.

#2-UConn, 7-UCF

An early Knights lead and late game rally was not enough to stop the Huskies in Gampel Pavilion.

# 5 North Carolina 63 -  #4-Arizona 45

The game that ended after midnight secured four ACC teams in the Sweet Sixteen.

The Wichita Region will feature Louisville against Tennessee and Michigan against South Dakota. Both games will be played on Saturday. The Cards tip off at 4 p.m against the Vols.

Women's Swim and Dive Finishes Sixth

Louisville women's swim and dive had an excellent showing at the NCAA Championships, finishing sixth overall as a team. Louisville posted a final score of 196.5.

Virginia defended its title from 2021, scoring a whopping 551.5 Texas placed second, still way behind the Cavaliers, and posted a 406. Stanford took third at 399.5. Alabama placed fourth with a score of 288. NC State was close behind at fifth, with a score of 279.

In the 200 backstroke, Louisville had two finalists in Paige Hetrick (12th) and Rye Ulett (16th).

  1. Thanks to Jared for all his hard work on the bracket challenge.

So, who do our participants think will win it all?

    44% -- Louisville
    22% -- South Carolina
    13% -- Stanford
    9% -- UConn
4% -- IU, Notre Dame, Iowa

Interesting that no one has NC State...

  2. Princeton !!! Who would have figured they would give IU that kind of game?

If the Hoosiers play like they did last night against UConn, the Huskies beat them by 30.

I give Belmont a tip of the cap also. They went into the Vols house and made a little noise and almost beat Rocky Top. It was good to see Sam Williams on TV. Louisville has gone from three Sams to no Sams in a couple of years. (Purcell, Wiliiams and Fuehring).

  3. Hi,

I'll take being in the lead, but I doubt I win it all. 13 of my 16 Sweet Sixteen picks still dancing.

  5. Hello Friends !
    Arthur Here !

Well, I am sure proud of Bea doing well in the Pick 'Em !! And, it's gone straight to her head and ego. Next thing you know, she'll be out doing scouting reports for Amanda down here...LOL

Three that surprise me in the WBB Sweet Sixteen are Creighton, CSouth Dakota and Ohio State, although Ohio State probably didn't come as much of a surprise to a lot of folks. Funny that Mulkey's old team and new team (Baylor and LSU) are both gone.

Keep going Cards ! The Vols are very beatable and the only thing that is concerning to me is that assistant (Williams) was with y'all a long time and they probably know a bunch about what you'll try and do based on what she tells them.

  6. Seminole Sue is retiring. She's earned it and my guess is the FSU administration may have "encouraged" it because of the Noles so-so season.

Congratulations to my man Benny! Taught him every thing he knows about WBB..

    1. Noles didn't went to lose Brooke Wycliffe. She did a good job with them when Sue was on leave.

  7. Retiring to care for an elderly mother is admirable. Sue Semerau has earned it.
