ACC T&F Title -- Rowing ACC Championships -- SATURDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

Good morning and happy Saturday, Cards fans! Case is out today and asked for a little bit of help so I gladly stepped to the plate to try and knock one out of the park. After an pleasant evening at Louvino with my fiancée and enjoying their wide array of beverages I'm just hoping for an intentional walk at this point.

Sadly, softball is over for the year as the Cards lost a heartbreaker to Duke Friday night. Daryl handled that recap way better than I could have as emotions had me down in the dumps over the loss. I had grown close to many of the graduates and was quite dejected watching their careers come to a close. We can get more into that later on the Cardinal Couple Radio Hour.

1-seed Clemson squared off against 4-seed Virginia Tech in the opening game of Friday's action. Following suit with the small scores for them this tournament, the Tigers won 2-0. In the second game, 3-seed Duke rallied in the seventh with a pair of runs to top 2-seed Florida State to advance to the championship. Clemson and Duke will battle it out at noon today. The ACC Tournament is a mask-less event, which was the first mask-free event I had been to in 14 months.

In terms of the on-campus women's sports, that is the only event happening. There have been some other activities on campus that have brought a few students back to campus as well as the summer term beginning soon.

Leon Wins Gold in Pole Vault

Add another ACC for UofL Track and Field. Gabriela Leon took the gold at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a top tier performance in the pole vault.

The senior's first vault attempt of 4.13m (a little over 14 feet) was enough to secure the title. Her teammate Aliyah Welter took fourth in the event.

Renate van Tonder placed fourth in the long jump to lead a trio of three Cards in the event. Makenli Forrest finished fourth in the women's hammer throw as three Cards also took place in that event. Forrest is still set to compete in more events.

Purity Sanga took the silver in the 10,000m finals with a time of 32:49.07.

The Cards hold a semi-comfortable lead over the rest of the field with 36.5 points after one day of the ACC Championships. North Carolina is second with 24.5 points. Day two is today and the events conclude tomorrow.

Rowing ACC Championships

Rowing also began their ACC Championships yesterday. The Varsity Four boat advanced to the grand finals in their event today.

Louisville will also have boats in the First Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ Petite Finals today.

There were no full team scores posted yet. The ACC Championships will conclude today down in Clemson, S.C.

Cardinal Couple Radio Hour Podcast

The distinguished and ever-famous Cardinal Couple Radio Hour is back in action this morning at 11:00. We are working with a smaller crew as Case and Daryl both have other duties and obligations going on today.

Paulie, Worldwide, and myself will have plenty to talk about as we highlight some accomplishments in ACC Championships and Tournaments for several sports as well as look at the beginning of the WNBA season and five Cardinal alums who made opening day rosters.

Happy Saturday and Go Cards!

  1. Hello Friends!
    Arthur Here !

Well, my Tigers got another one. Not our best effort, but our freshman sensation Cagle is something else in the circle. And we got a break in the final, not having to face FSU. Still, Duke is formidable and it'll be a tough test for us.
