Hartlage Advances -- Manatee win showdown with Mocs -- FRIDAY CARDINAL COUPLE
LAUREN HARTLAGE ADVANCES TO ROUND OF SIXTEEN IN NORTH & SOUTH TOURNAMENT
Our mission here at Cardinal Couple is to bring you the joy and excitement of UofL women's athletics. That mission has been a bit difficult over the past few months, but we got great news on The Galt House's huge donation yesterday and have some great news on the success and pursuits of a few UofL women's athletes today!
Louisville women's golf student-athlete Lauren Hartlage pulled off what you might consider an upset when she knocked off the #3 seed in the round of 32 yesterday at Pinehurst. Hartlage had barely made the cut after two days, getting the #30 seed, but entered match play yesterday and came through with the "W". .
She knocked off Sadie Englemann (who has signed a letter of intent to attend Stanford this fall) in match play yesterday on the 17th hole of their match, with a birdie on the par 3, to go up three stokes with just one hole to play and effectively end the match.
Hartlage advances to take on #14 seed Emilia Miglioccio (Wake Forest) today in an off-season ACC showdown. Miglioccio was 3 up on her opponent yesterday with two holes to play to get the win. They tee off at 7:40 this morning.
Only three of the top ten seeds in match play advanced yesterday...#1 and #2...surviving. Englemann was the best-seeded golfer to fall yesterday in match play.

Here's hoping Lauren can shoot her way to "the Great Eight" today at Pinehurst!
MANATEE KNOCKS OFF THE RIVER MOCS 2-1
In a showdown between the top two teams in the FGCL yesterday, the home-standing Manatee Squeeze took a 2-1, extra innings win over league-leading Myakka City River Mocs yesterday.
Manatee used a bottom of the eighth inning single from Sara Berthiaume (FAU) to plate Abi Stuart (Clemson) for the walk-off win.
Louisville softball student-athlete Jordyn Wolfe started for Manatee in right field and went 1-3 in the game. She singled in the sixth inning to start a Manatee rally but was forced out at second on a fielder's choice. Wolfe also reached base in the first inning on a River Mocs fielding error but was left stranded on the base paths.
Cardinal Paige Schindler did not appear in the contest.
With the win, Manatee improves to 15-5 on the season and drops Myakka City to 19-2.

Hang in there Lauren. Last time I checked, she and Emilia were tied after 11 holes.
