LACROSSE PLAYS VANDY TODAY -- TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE
LACROSSE TAKE 2-2 RECORD TO MUSIC CITY
Louisville Lacrosse (2-2) continues the non-conference part of the 2020 schedule with a 4 p.m. face-off today against the Vanderbilt Commodore in Nashville .
The 'Dores are 3-1 on the season, and their only loss came against another ACC lacrosse school. Vandy fell 15-12 at Boston College in their second game of the season. Since then, they've won two in a row. Lehigh took Vandy to overtime before suffering a 13-13 defeat Saturday in the home opener for Vanderbilt.
The Commodore began the season on the road, winning at Wagner 14-11. After the BC loss, they went to Kennesaw State had romped 21-11. We'll offer bonus points today, if you can correctly identify the states that Wagner, Lehigh and Kennesaw State are located in. Answer at the bottom of today's article.
Louisville lost a close one Saturday against Michigan 15-11. The Cards started slowly in this one in Ann Arbor, roared back to tie the match at 11 and ended up falling by four. UofL goalkeeper Rachel Florek set a Louisville Lacrosse record with 17 saves against the Wolverines. She was also interviewed by Cardinal Couple last Wednesday. W're 99% sure the two events are coincidental, since the interview came before the record-setting performance in goal.
Louisville has the all-time edge over the 'Dores 7-3. 4-1 at the L.L.S. and 3-2 in Nashville.
Last year, Louisville trailed early before climbing back to force a 8-8 tie. In overtime, Vandy got the deciding goal. Shayla Scanlan had a "hat trick" in the affair, and scored the tying goal with 29 ticks left on the clock. Ally Hall tallied twice in the contest also.
Hall leads the Cards with nine goals. She's also been a guest on the "talks with Teeter" (coincidence, again?) RIght behind her is Hannah Morris with eight and there's a three-way tie for third -- Shayla Scanlan, freshman Allegra Catalano and one of the Blalock sister's - Caroline - with six scores each. Twelve Cards have goals on the season and Louisville has a 49-47 scoring edge on opponents this season.
Vandy plays their Lacrosse in the AAC (American Athletic Conference). Pre-season poll put them to finish third in the conference. They return Emily Mathewson, who scored the game-winner against Louisville last year, is tied for goal-scoring honors with 10 and also their draw control leader with 15 to her credit.

Tomorrow we'll review the action with Coach Teeter and a student athlete with our weekly "Talks With Teeter" interview series. I'll be writing for the second day in a row, back from Sonya and my "get-away" extended, weekend long birthday's trip. Be sure to check back in!
NOTE: Answer to the question today is Kennesaw State is in Georgia, Wagner in New York City, NY and Lehigh in Bethlehem, PA. If you knew all three, we'll offer you a bonus point for the ACC TOURNAMENT PICK 'EM" we'll be running here next week.
(Three forms of undeniable proof required for bonus point. Offer void in Canada and Kansas. All decisions reviewed, verified and deemed official or needing further review by contest czar Jared Anderson, who also supplied today's action photos.) ...

That's not bad, 2-2, for Lacrosse considering all the freshmen on the squad. It's looking "up" for the Teeter rebuild of the program.

ReplyDeleteCongrats to Kylee being named a semi finalist for the Naismith defensive player of the year๐
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful news and Kylee deserves it! And, there's a Angle McCoughtry bobblehead giveaway Thursday:
DeleteFormer University of Louisville women's basketball all-american Angel McCoughtry will have her very own limited edition bobblehead giveaway on Thursday when the Cardinals host Boston College at 6 p.m. ET.
Gates open at 5 p.m. ET and Angel McCoughtry bobbleheads will be given to the first 1,000 fans through the gates.
There will be a strict limit of one bobblehead per person in line. Fans may not present multiple tickets to receive multiple bobbleheads. Bobbleheads will be given away on the east side (2nd street/Clark Memorial Bridge) of the KFC Yum! Center main concourse, while supplies last.
McCoughtry was inducted into the University of Louisville Athletics Hall of Fame this past October.

Kylee I would think is at least the best defensive player in the ACC this year. She swats and alters more shots than anyone I can think of. Gerraud a guard at BC leads in steals and is a good all around defender but Kylee is a whole different level when it comes to influencing a game on defense.
DeleteHello Friends!
ReplyDeleteArthur Here!
It looks like you Cardinals have the #1 seed all wrapped up for the ACC Tournament. My Clemson Tigers seems destined to play on Wednesday as a #14 seed. We'd get the #11 seed on Wednesday night and currently that'd be among four teams (Wake, Virginia, UNC or Notre Dame). We got a win over Notre Dame, so I guess that'd be the preferable draw.
Looks like the #4 seed in the Tournament could be a wide-open deal also. Three teams tied at 10-6 in FSU, VT AND Boston College, Duke at 11-5 and Syracuse 9-7. It could come down to the tie-breaker scenario.
Luck would have it we face FSU down there and Georgia Tech at home to end the regular season. We could play the spoiler role, I guess, and we DO own a win over Georgia Tech there.
It's been a disappointing season for WBB hoops down here and with the WBB squad and staff, generally speaking. I'm glad I claim my Louisville WBB fan status!

Hat tip to you Arthur for staying with your Tigers so faithfully this year. You are to be admired. I am a fair weather Cards and BC fan though not based on wins/losses. When the teams play solid and entertaining bball I take the time to watch each of them. When they don't I lose interest. I asked to be removed from another Cards board because I was posting too much and not controlling how much time I was spending on it. This is addictive following teams when you're really into it.
DeleteI've also thought Lehigh was in New York I guess, since, I can remember.
ReplyDeleteI have learned today and that is always good!
Arthur.
just want to thank you for the louisville lacrosse coverage i played against several of the women on the team in high school in maryland and though i did not pursuit lacrosse in college it is great to see how they are doing.
ReplyDeleteWatched a very entertaining game yesterday between Northwestern and Ohio St. Ohio St is dangerous (Lville caught them at their best) but Nwestern is so balanced and smart and pulled away in the 4th quarter. They have weapons including Abi Scheid, a sharpshooter leading the nation in 3 pt % at almost 50%. She's a stretch 4 and hit 5 of 7 yesterday. Who knows, the Cards may face the Wildcats in the tourney. That would be a good game.
ReplyDeleteAs stated by Stanford Medical, It's in fact the one and ONLY reason this country's women get to live 10 years longer and weigh on average 19 kilos lighter than us.
ReplyDelete(By the way, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with genetics or some secret-exercise and really, EVERYTHING about "HOW" they are eating.)
BTW, What I said is "HOW", and not "what"...
