Cross Country, Volleyball and Cardinal COUPLE RADIO HOUR -- Sunday Cardinal Couple

Cross Country Results

A relatively quiet day yesterday for UofL women's sports.  Cross-Country (both the men and women) were in action at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Eastern Louisville.  The men tallied a 2nd place team win, but the women finished up in 6th place.

The Cards did have a couple of top 10 finishers with Ivine Chemutai finishing 4th, and Bailey Berry crossing the line two spots, and ten seconds, behind in 6th.  Kassidy Manning crossed about 30 seconds later for a 21st place finish.

There were 39 teams competing on the women's side of the competition, with 41 teams on the men's side.

On Tap for Today

2 of the 3 "typical" women's team sports are in action, with Field Hockey and Volleyball hitting the field.  Softball will also be in action in the last of their exhibition fall play.  All of this activity is on Floyd Street, so be aware for parking reasons if you're coming out.

First and foremost, for Softball, if you were planning to enjoy this nice turn of weather we are having with a stroll out to Ulmer Field, do be aware that there is rain in the forecast for later in the day.  And because of that forecast, the start time for the first game has been moved earlier to noon.  They will be playing host to Indiana for a double header, and this will be your last chance to see your Cardinal Softball squad in intercollegiate action until their season starts in the spring.

Also with a noon start, Field Hockey hosts a Penn State team that has not found a lot of success on the scoreboard, but has played a fairly tough schedule so far.  They're 2-7 on the season, but the losses come against Duke, UVA, Delaware, Old Dominion, Princeton, Maryland, and Cal.  None of those teams are stinkers, with Duke and UVA both being ACC squads, we know they're quite good, and in current rankings, Maryland is 4th, Delaware is 11th, Princeton is 12th, and ODU checks in a 22nd.  So don't let that 2-7 record fool you.  This could still very well prove to be a quite good team.

Volleyball has a 1pm first serve against Clemson.  The Tigers volleyball squad is better than they have been in years past by all accounts, but they're not exactly knocking on the door of the top 25 rankings.  An overall record of 6-8, and winless so far in 3 matches of ACC play, Clemson would love to find a signature win to build on.  Notable matchups are 5 set losses to Kansas State, South Carolina, and Syracuse.  The Tigers were able to take a set off of Notre Dame, and a suprisingly good Boston College team.  Wins have all been against teams of, alas, no real note, with perhaps the best win coming against Georgia in their season opener.

I invite regular reader and friend of Cardinal Couple, "Clemson Arthur" to chime in on their perspective of Clemson volleyball as I believe he follows their volleyball squad as well.

Cardinal Couple Radio Hour

Well, the Cardinal Couple Radio Hour was a thing, that happened.

After yesterday's football game, in our group chat, Paulie asked us, Case, Daryl, and myself, how the show had gone as he and Jared had not had a chance to listen/watch it, yet.  I replied that the segment on cricket had gone very well.  Jared responded that he really liked the discussion about our curling team.

The joke is on Jared though, as I wasn't joking about the cricket discussion.

Yes, we digressed some.

The station does well in demographics
with squirrels. They just love Jeff...
If you're not into cricket, and I certainly understand if you aren't, we did spend most of the time discussing the results of the weeks UofL women's sports activities with focuses on Soccer, Volleyball, Field Hockey.

We had fun, Case stumbled a bit over the intro, which we all had a laugh about, but then I think we put together a pretty good show.  Please check it out at the FB Live link:

  1. Hello !

Jeff, I haven't been to any Clemson Volleyball matches this season. Throwing our trips into football and Clemson soccer.

I do know we're 6-8 and haven't won an ACC match. That'll probably continue today up there.

we will be coming up for the Clemson Football game against Louisville. Bus trip. Staying at Fairfield Inn.
