Cards Take Down Dayton in Offensive Showcase
Louisville took down Dayton, 5-2, in a high scoring affair to improve to 6-0. Five different players scored for the Cards, who matched their season high with five goals.
With some players recovering from minor injuries and getting rest before the upcoming match against Vanderbilt we saw a few different faces in the starting lineup.
One of those new faces put the first goal in for the Cards as Taylor Kerwin's goal 59 seconds in was the quickest of the season for the Cards.
Delaney Snyder attacked the left side of the box in the ninth minute before being taken down and drawing a foul. Maisie Whitsett lined up for the kick and knocked it in past the Dayton keeper.
Less than four minutes later Snyder joined in on the scoring. The sophomore received a pass from Emina Ekic and took the shot over the goalkeeper's head.
Louisville would go into the locker room at halftime with a 3-0 lead.
It seemed the Cards got comfortable with their lead as they gave up a pair of goals early in the second half.
Lana Batson was in the game for less than five minutes as Gabby Kouzelos' sub before the Flyers found the back of the net against her.
The Cards had an answer, though, as Brooklynn Rivers took in a pass from Callie McKinney and took the shot from the right side of the box. Rivers was limited to 23 minutes, all in the second half, as she is recovering from an ankle injury. It was 4-1 Louisville, but the fireworks offensively for each team weren't over yet.
Dayton posted their second of the match 25 seconds after Rivers' goal. To put it bluntly, the UofL defense fell asleep and the Flyers capitalized.
The Cards finished the scoring on the night off a set piece. Ekic placed a ball perfectly near the far post where Sarah Hernandez was waiting to head the ball in. Hernandez's other goal this year came on a similar situation. The Cards and Flyers remained scoreless the rest of the way and Karen Ferguson Dayes' crew prevail in a "tale of two halves" 5-2 win.
Louisville remains undefeated and is one goal shy of averaging three goals per match. However, their "clean sheet" at home was broken when Dayton scored in the second half. It was the first goal surrendered by the Cards since the first half of the season opener at Ohio State.
The Cards prepare for a Vanderbilt team ranked #9 in the country. The Cards and Commodores will kick off at 6:00 pm at Lynn Stadium Sunday night. Please note the earlier start time than normal.
Following the match we caught up with Taylor Kerwin and Sarah Hernandez. Kerwin's goal was the first of the season for her while Hernandez now has two on the year.
They said it...

Happy Friday and Go Cards!
Jared
Last night was my first time in your beautiful facility and what a wonderful venue for soccer !
ReplyDeletePaulie, I enjoyed chatting with you as we walked in last night. I did watch with amusement as you went through the prolonged security search. They are a thorough bunch and I am surprised they didn't make you stand on one leg, tilt your head backwards, recite the alphabet backwards and show proof of citizenship.
As for the game, I was proud of my Flyers effort but we are a rebuilding team and I was honestly pleased to get out of there with only a three-point loss. I thought my daughter played well against your Cardinals but your front line attack is incredibly fast, probably the fastest I'll see this year and I was impressed by them.
Mr Jared, a very nice write up on the match! I like that you include pictures, post game and a bit of commentary as well in the articles here. Dayton needs a website like this. Any of you guys want to move up here and start one? I'll provide funding.
Thank you for the business card, Paulie. I've spent about an hour perusing the site and plan on telling my friends about it, and my daughter.
The uniqueness of being a women's only sports website is something I am totally in favor of and hope you'll continue the cause for many years. I wish there were more sites like this and if you ever decide to franchise out, consider me an investor!
If you are ever in the Cincinnati area, give me a call and I'd love to go to lunch or dinner with you and talk women's sports.
Sincerely,
Carol's Mom
Enjoyed chatting with you also last night. Thank you for checking out the site and the very gracious and kind words.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we like Jared too. Despite his attempts to sabotage the site from time to time. He is currently under NCAA investigation, along with Floyd the Squirrel
Lynn Stadium (on campus) is a showcase, no doubt about it. As for "security theatre" last night, it was the roughest "search" I've been through in a couple of seasons. First, the checker said I couldn't bring my media bag in. Over-ruled by her supervisor. Told me to pour my unopened water out. Over-ruled by supervisor. Inspected every nook, cranny, zipper and content of my bag and questioned why I had a disposable raingear in there.
Uh, maybe to shield me from nuclear fallout? Because Simon says?
Anyway, will definitely take you up on the Cincy offer if I get up there and best of luck to the Flyers the rest of the way. I follow Dayton pretty closely, since a friend's daughter is on the rowing team up there.
Paulie

ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty smile on both girls!
ReplyDeleteI have a vuvuzela from many years ago, somewhere in my Mom and Pop's basement (if it hasn't gone out in a yard sale, I guess).
There were three of us with them in high school and we would play along with the pep band at hoops games, much to the disgust of the pep band leader.
We were finally summoned to the principal's office and told we could not bring them to any more athletic events. We showed them all, though. We just took them to away games and distanced ourselves from the pep band.

Hailey Van Lith sighting on campus. Saw her with Neeli Bendaputi. Sure looked like Van Lith. Couldn't catch up with them though.
ReplyDeleteConfirmed. She is on campus. With her dad.
