Softball sweeps... The Cardinal Couple Radio Hour,...Lacrosse today -- SATURDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

BECKER GETS TWO WINS IN SOFTBALL SWEEP

Louisville Softball won both their games on the first day of the Louisville Tournament...getting by Ohio 2-1 in eight innings and pounding IUPUI 7-2 in the second contest.

Maryssa Becker the strong arm of the day...pitching a total of 14 innings in the two contests and getting both wins....improving her record to 10-4.

LOUISVILLE 2 - OHIO 1

This one was a pitcher's duel most of the way...Savannah Dorsey for the Bobcats and Becker keeping things quiet on the base paths. Ohio struck first at the plate Two singles and a throwing error giving them a 1-0 advantage after one.

The Cards knotted it up in the second when Nicole Pufahl singled and advanced to third on a throwing miscue. Alison "Mike" Szydlowski brought her to the plate with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Cards would have chances to take the lead...leaving two runners on in the fourth and fifth but were not able to push them across the plate. Meanwhile, Becker had her lawnmower out and was cutting down the Bobcats...she and her defense eliminated 17 of 19 batters after the first inning singles.

Per the tie-breaker rule, after seven innings...the Bobcats started the top of the eighth with a runner on second. She remained there...Becker getting two punchouts and fielding a grounder.  The Cards put Lillie Goetz on second in the bottom of the inning and with two outs...freshman shortstop Caitlin Ferguson delivered a single to center to get Goetz to the plate and end the game.

Becker delivered seven strikeouts for UofL...Dorsey had an impressive 11 in her 7.2 innings.

LOUISVILLE 7 - IUPUI 2

Sydney Warriner drew the start for the Cards in game two but lasted just an inning. Becker came in to relieve in a scoreless affair...but allowed a Roni Patterson home run in the top of the third. The Cards more than made up for the in the bottom of the inning...plating five runs.

After a Ferguson walk and Jordan McNary single...*Poof* cleared the bases with a double. Tiarra Sanabria doubled Pufahl home and Jenna Jordan doubled home Sanabria. Jamie Soles contnued the hit parade...scoring Jordan and the Cards were up 5-1.

Louisville added two in the fifth...Pufahl scoring on Sanabria's third hit of the game and Soles driving Sanabria home with a single. 7-1 Cards. The Jags would score once in the top of the seventh for the 7-2 final tally.

TODAY HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Not in a global sense, mind you...but due to inclement weather in the Louisville area...there will be no softball games played.

The Cards will attempt to take the field at 2 p.m. Sunday against N. Iowa.

  1. Side bar WBB topic.
Taylor, Cortnee &** BJ have to go all out for the NCAA tournament, it's could be the last collegiate game for all three of them.
We (UofL) need the Seniors to step up and ball out.

Note:Astris next to BJ's name if she's able to play.
