Louisville Softball Sets Sights on ACC Tournament -- Wednesday CARDINAL COUPLE

HIT AND PITCH CARDS TO FACE SYRACUSE TO OPEN ACC TOURNAMENT

It's Survive and Advance Time for Sandy Pearsall's
Louisville Softball squad.

With the regular season behind them, Louisville takes their 34-14 overall record and 15-8 ACC performance to Raleigh, NC to start ACC Tournament play Thursday as the #2 seed.

Awaiting the Cards in the first game is #7 seed Syracuse. The Orange will most likely put pitcher AnnaMarie Gatti in the circle...which could be cause for concern for the Cards.

I got down to campus Tuesday afternoon to discuss the upcoming tournament with Coach Pearsall and a couple of the players. Sandy elaborates on Gatti, Syracuse and the tournament:

"She gave us fits when they came here. We really did struggle with her..we kinda struggled that whole weekend a bit against them...in getting our offense going. We obviously like to do a better job because Syracuse is a tough opponent. They're a very dangerous team that always comes to play. We like being the #2 seed but this is a tough match-up for us to start off with."

Brittany Sims is one of three seniors on the Cardinal roster and the only one of them to play all four of her years here at Louisville. The Lexington, KY native sees the tournament in this aspect:

"I think we're all very excited after this weekend. We went down to Florida State, put up a good fight and I think we showed everyone...including ourselves...that we can compete with anyone in this conference and we're looking forward to going down and doing it again."

Megan Hensley has had a phenomenal season as a freshman both in the circle and at the plate. The Ashland, KY pitcher will be experiencing her first ACC Tournament and offered her view-point on the upcoming three days:

"I'm so excited! I'm not sure what to expect. I didn't expect this time last year I'd be in the position I am right now. It's a big confidence thing to know we are the #2 seed going into the tournament and we can play with anybody."

The Cards will face Syracuse at 5 p.m. Thursday in quarter-final action on the North Carolina State campus. The event will be available on the ACC RSN Network and be sure to follow the Twitter updates on the action here at Cardinal Couple.

River City Cards' Jared Anderson will be attending the tournament and we hope to catch up with him for a report on our Saturday radio show. Jared is the editor-in-chief for RCC now and a frequent guest on our THE CARDINAL COUPLE RADIO HOUR show and we're looking forward to his always excellent coverage of Louisville athletics. Be sure to check out their great website.

We'll also play the entire interviews with Pearsall, Sims and Hensley on our Saturday radio broadcast THE CARDINAL COUPLE RADIO HOUR which will air Saturday 11 a.m. on WCHQ 100.9 FM and on the internet at www.crescenthillradio.com

  2. The Guv must still be in her bunker taking shells. May not hear from her until the smoke clears.

    1. LOL. Yeah, I wondered about that as well. Seems she is on vacation in California visiting her new granddaughter. In an e-mail to me, she seemed quite distraught about the continuing plummet of UK WBB and openly wondered if maybe it's time for a change in leadership.

    2. Tell Guv to stay out there. A lot of good WBB on the west coach and she can start fresh with a different team. The Deb Factor

    3. Excellent advice. Like the team Sabrina Ionescue decides to play for. That will get her off in the right direction since she's probably dealing w some acute PTSD right now
