LORETTA KAKALA A CARD!...LOUISVILLE SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEADER TODAY...THE CARDINAL COUPLE RADIO HOUR -- SUNDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

LORETTA KAKALA COMMITS TO WBB

6'3 post Loretta Kakala visited the UofL campus over the weekend and has committed to the Cards...Jeff Walz's first commitment for the 2017 class.

Out of Manteca, CA...she averaged 16 points a game last season and grabbed 8.5 rebounds.

She is ranked 21st. in the Prospectsnation.com recruiting list for the 2017 class and 26th. by ESPN. She also competes in the shot put and discus in high school...which will undoubtedly draw comparison references with Emmonnie Henderson.

Taylor Johnson, a red-shirt junior out of Loyola Chicago, is also expected to visit the campus. She has been granted her release from Loyola and would have one year of eligibility remaining

Good work, Coach and welcome to the Ville, Loretta!

CARDS, IRISH PLAY TWO AT 11 A.M.

Weather in the South Bend area necessitated the cancellation of softball between UofL and UND yesterday and the teams will try to get in two today with an 11 a.m. start planned.

The cancelled game won't be made up. Today's action can be viewed on ESPN3 and be sure to follow tweets here at the site about the action.

Louisville has a 13-5 ACC record and the Irish are 10-5...so two wins for either squad would give them a nice foothold on second place in the conference.

  1. Great news on Kakala! If Johnson visits and decides to commit, would we still have room for White?

    1. Johnson would be eligible immediately wherever she goes (and we certainly hope it is here!). That would fulfill the scholarship openings. My best guess (and hardly anything official at all) is that White might not end up here.

You never know for sure. Let's hope that the visit goes well with Johnson. We could use a little experienced guard depth and Taylor Johnson would certainly fill the bill in that category.

  2. Looks like the Cards would have height needs fulfilled. Wonder why White didn't commit when here? Kakala definitely has game. Johnson would be a great get to strengthen the guard play. The Deb Factor

  3. You called it Paulie. Taylor Johnson is a Card. This is great news. She better be able to start. Paulie, do you think she will start at pg?

    1. She's got a fighting chance at it. Walz will tell you that who is out there in the final two minutes of a close game is most important than who starts...and, based on her resume of work over the last three years, she's going to be a valuable contributor for the 16-17 Cards.

  4. This girl is going to help and please start and get lots of minutes. I'm tired of seeing Arica get yanked early every game by Coach for something.
Back to Taylor Johnson. Dec 28th vs DEPAUL she scored 24 with 8 assists and beat DEPAUL by 13 points 88-75!!
That's what we need. Seems to be active defensively with steals too.
