WBB gets five early commits...Field Hockey ready to cage the Huskies...Sam Purcell -- Thursday Cardinal Couple
2016 WBB COMMITS ALL GO EARLY
Once again, the recruiting genius of Jeff Walz and his staff is on prominent dispay. All five UofL 2016 WBB targets (Kylee Shook, Sydney Zambrotta, Bionca Dunham, Jazmine Jones and Ciera Johnson) committed early Wednesday to continuing their academic and athletic careers at the University of Louisville.
We could go into paragraphs here on the skills and talent headed to Belknap. Instead, let's just enjoy this little saga/compilation put together at the link below:
HELLO, FUTURE CARDINALS!
( In the words of the Beatles...we've got to admit it's getting better...getting better all the time...)
GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME!

FIELD HOCKEY READY TO CAGE THE HUSKIES
A great interview Wednesday morning with UofL head Field Hockey coach Justine Sowry as the Stick Cards get ready for NCAA play at UConn against the 20-0 # 4 seeded and #2 in the nation Huskies.
If there's any fear in the offices off Warnock...I didn't see it.
When you come from a conference where all seven members made the NCAA Tournament, you believe in the power to progress and advance.
In the words of Coach Sowry:
"We're ready to give them a go."
We've got great words to play from the interview that'll we'll have on our Saturday radio show THE CARDINAL COUPLE RADIO HOUR. Here's a few teasers...
- Was Sowry worried whether Louisville would get a bid or not?
- What would be the best celebration in Sowry's coaching milestone at Louisville?
- What's the key to caging the Huskies?
- Why will Louisville win this game?
All these answers (and more) revealed at 11 a.m. on WCHQ 100.9 FM and streaming live on the Internet at

A GUY FROM FOOTBALL COUNTRY ENJOYING BASKETBALL COUNTRY
When you walk into Sam Purcell's office on the second floor of the SAC Building on the UofL Belknap Campus, the first thing you notice is the 18X24 framed photo of Asia Taylor.
That predatory, all-business look on A-Tayy's face as she advanced the rock up the court. It's be the perfect gift for CARDINAL COUPLE'S Sonja for Christmas. All I have to do is figure out how to smuggle it out of Sam's office.
A chance to spend a few minutes with the "Football Country guy enjoying Basketball Country" yesterday reveals that Sam is digging his time as one of Jeff Walz's assistant coaches.
Sam is about dedicated as they come to Football Country...in this case, Georgia. The Falcons, the Bulldogs, the Ramblin' Wreck...he grew up in a football frenzied state. He dreamed of life in Basketball Country, though...and when he got the offer to leave Georgia Tech in June of 2013 and join Walz's staff...there was no hesitation.
His Valhalla beckoned. The mecca of hoops awaited.
We'll play the entire interview for you Saturday morning. A few things to listen for:
-- What seasonal items sit atop the entertainment center behind coach's desk?
-- How is the team looking for the season opener against California?
-- What is the primary focus for the team as game day draws near?
-- What else is Sam Purcell besides a basketball coach?
All in all, a great time with Coach Sam P. and an interview you don't want to miss Saturday on The CARDINAL COUPLE RADIO HOUR.

That signing day video is hilarious. Some pretty creative folks on the WBB crew. Another great recruiting effort by Walz and his team.
ReplyDeleteI just checked ticket availabilty for the "This Game's on Me Promotion" and the available tickets are in the 3rd level. Here's hoping all the ticket holders show to support the team.
ReplyDeleteNice piece from Graham Hays

Hays is a good friend of Walz's so we should continue to get favorable press from him. Favorable press is good...these days.
