Sonya, Christy and Sara Enter Louisville Hall of Fame -- SATURDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

WHAT? NO GAME RECAPS TODAY?

It seems weird to be sitting down in front of the computer on a Saturday morning and not writing an introductory paragraph about how one of the UofL women's sports teams fared last night.

The truth is...no volleyball, soccer or field hockey took place for the Cards last night. They'll all be active this weekend, though...and we'll cover it all for you here at CARDINAL COUPLE.

What did happen last night was six outstanding athletes were inducted into the UofL Athletics Hall of Fame and three of them were women. We'll let the achievements of Deion Branch, Herb Crook and Mark Jurich stand by themselves...they were excellent at their respective sports...and look at newest members Sara Nord, Sonya Gubaidulina Karmazin and Christy Hershey Allman.

Nord played hoops for the Cards from 2000-04 and is the all-time leader in assists. She is second in career steals and third in career three pointers. Sara was a Miss Indiana Basketball awardee during her time at Jeffersonville High School and earned freshman All-American honors in 2001. A four-time C-USA First team selection...Nord's jersey hangs above the court in the KFC YUM! Center.

Sonya worked her magic on the volleyball court from 1996-98 and was a ferocious outside-hitter. From Moscow, Russia...she was the 1998 C-USA Player of the year and league tournament MVP. She ranks ninth in career kills at UofL. The Cards won the league title all three years she played here.

Hershey was the first ever UofL Field Hockey All-American in 2001. Maybe the best goalie to ever play for Louisville...she had 25 shutouts in her four years on the field. A three-time MAC Conference first team selection, she was on the first ever Louisville Field Hockey squad to play in the NCAA Tournament (2003).

Congratulations to these three superstars!
