Volleyball releases 2015 Schedule -- Thursday Cardinal Couple

VOLLEYCARDS UNVEIL 2015 SCHEDULE

NO TUESDAY GAMES!!
If you see our 'steamed' colleague Worldwide breaking out into a spontaneous "happy dance" on Hurstbourne Lane...don't be alarmed. The UofL Volleyball team has released their 2015 schedule. It is fan-friendly...with all home matches except one being on Friday, Sat. or Sunday.

Once again, the VolleyCards will split time between the KFC YUM! Center and Cardinal Arena. The season gets underway on August 22nd. with the annual Red/Black scrimmage in Cardinal Arena.

The first road trip of the year takes UofL to a familiar venue...Champaign, IL. where they'll face the Illini and opponents to be named later. The Illini always play the Cards tough.

Louisville returns to host the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in the KFC YUM! Center. UNC partners up with the Cards to face Minnesota and Wisconsin. They'll stay in town but move venues for the next and host the Cardinal Classic at Cardinal Arena Sept 11-12 with Utah, Ohio and Seton Hall on the guest list.

Road trips to Cincinnati (9/17) and UK (9/20) are next for the Cards to end the non-conference part of the schedule.

The first ACC opponent will be the Irish on  Sept 25th. Louisville heads back across the bridge to welcome Miami, Syracuse and Boston College in the KFC YUM! Center.

The Cards will take a southern swing after that with road matches against Georgia Tech and Clemson before returning to the YUM! and serving it up against Wake Forest, Duke and a Wednesday night match against Notre Dame.

Louisville says goodbye to October and ushers in November on the road with a sojurn to Charlottesville to face the Hoos and takes a trip down Tobacco Road for UNC and NC State sets.

The Cards will get Pitt and Virginia Tech in the facility down by the Ohio River before applying the sunscreen and visiting Miami and Florida State on Nov 13th and 15th.

The final homestand of the year features Clemson and Ga. Tech. returning the Cardinal's visit from earlier in the schedule and UofL will close out the conference schedule on a potentially chilly northern swing to Boston College on Nov 25 and Syracuse the day after Thanksgiving.

Volleyball season less than three months away...with the hope and dreams of a return to the conference domination the Cards enjoyed in their Big East and AAC stays. A team that has addressed their weaknesses and gone out to get the fixes.

Anne Kordes has a team that is of her own making now, in terms of recruiting, as she gets ready for her second ACC battleground. A team that impressed Worldwide when he watched a spring round-robin last month. We'll be watching with interest...we hope you join us to watch wide-net action.

  1. The unknown, as I see it, is the status of Katie George. She has graduated. She will participate in the Miss USA pageant this summer where she most likely will make lots of contacts in her chosen career. Could any of us blame her if she was offered a position in her field and she chose to move on? I think not.

    1. Maybe, Vivian...but I do think she has established a strong bond with her teammates and coach and really wants to acheive a long run in the NCAA Torunament and a ACC title before leaving. The career opportunities will be there...she's that dynamic...when she's done with Voleyball.

IF she wins the Miss USA pageant, however....that's a completely different scenario.

  2. 15-15. Lost seven out of their last eight. 7-11 in conference.

2014 was disappointing. How much room is left on that pier before Annie plunges overboard?

    1. Seems a bit harsh. No doubt results could have been better in '14 but it's a much stronger league and Kordes deserves a chance to get her feet under her.

    2. Kordes has challenges ahead but she's never been one to back down from them. Based on the recruiting, reports of how the team looked in the spring and familiarity of our ACC foes now...I fully expect Volleyball to have a stellar season. Anne has addressed the squad's needs and weaknesses and that's what good coaches do.

    3. It is a bit harsh, but unfortunately, the business (and it is a business, really) of college athletics does contain that reality.

The room on the pier is getting a bit limited, I think. There is still room to maneuver, and I do think the turnaround is starting (as Paulie mentioned...based on what I saw in the spring and who is coming in next year).

The ACC is a good volleyball conference, so I do think that gives Kordes another year or so that she might not have gotten otherwise.

So, I think the turnaround has begun, and from what I see, I think it has. The next year or two will be critical, though.

Keep an eye on Erin Fairs this fall, she's truly a joy to watch play. I hear great things about Molly Sauer who I expect will be the Libero for the team in the fall, though I haven't ever seen her play. We still have one of the best middle duo's I think I've ever seen play the game at this level in Tess and Maggie. Maya, Janelle, and Erin should form a great core of hitters with hopefully some additions from the incoming freshmen to round things out. I'm excited and encouraged by what I see.

And I probably should've left this analysis for one of my articles for the summer doldrums when we have to really look around for content. Ah well, it fit in the context of the thread well.

    5. I don't bet on anything ever, but if I did I'd take Kordes and her netgirls to finish in the top quarter of the ACC next year. We otta be stepping up for these kids instead of talking about brooming the coach after one year in the ACC. I'm thinking Walz has some of us pretty spoiled about the reality of this league.

  3. Way off topic but still impressive
