Louisville WBB plays Wake Forest today -- Sunday Cardinal Couple

                         #######GAME FINAL#######

Louisville WBB overcame a 11 point halftime deficit to defeat Wake Forest 79-68 Sunday afternoon. We'll have the full recap in the Monday Cardinal Couple

CARDS HOPE TO "WAKE UP" IN WINSTON-SALEM

There is an old adage out there that goes...you can't see the forest because of the trees. Louisville women's basketball should have no trouble recognizing Wake Forest's women's basketball team today at 2 p.m. in the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum today...one of their "trees" -- 6'3" senior forward Dearica Hamby -- averages 20.7 ppg and 10.1 rebounds a game and is on everyone's potential All-American list.

The Cards will need to chop town this tall oak to secure victory today in their second ACC road trip of the season.

We hear the terms "man up" and "step up" in common usage when it comes to sports performance. We'll toss in "Wake up" for today's game. The Cards can't afford a 30 minute slumber-fest like they had against Pitt last time out if they want to stay undefeated in ACC play.

It also turns out Pitt may be a little better than we gave them credit for...after losing to the Cards by six, the Panthers pulled the upset over UNC last time out...

Wake Forest hasn't won an ACC contest yet this season but they've been in position to be 2-0 instead of 0-2. They lost by only seven (70-63) in Durham to #10 Duke to start their ACC campaign...a game that wasn't decided until late. Most recently, the Demon Deaconesses travelled to Cavalier Country and fell 72-70 to Virginia. Two Wahoo free throws with one second left in the game put the "L" on the Forest dwellers.

Hamby had a great outing against Joanne Boyle's Charlottesville cagers with 27 points on 12-18 shooting. Amber Campbell also stepped up (see...there's that phrase) for third year coach Jen Hoover with 18 points and eight grabs. The freshman from Charleston, SC is a smaller tree at 5'9" (one inch taller than our "attack Yorkie" height specifications) but is the only other double figures producer for WFU...tossing in 10.7 an outing.

We'd like to see Louisville get off to the rolling start they did at Pitt and then find a way to maintain it for the first half. Defensive pressure, passing and not dribbling the basketball and hitting a few outside shots would go far in helping to bring the trees out from the deep forest into the woodlands and creating Cardinal access for close-in scoring attempts.

Much like Louisville...Wake likes to attempt their baskets in the painted area also. Against the Cavs, 51 of their 70 points were in the paint.

Louisville, Virginia, Miami and Duke are the only teams with no conference losses just three games into ACC play. The Cards are the only ACC team left with just one loss overall. Parity? Yep, it's here...

The tilt will be on Cards Radio 790 with Matt Andrews and AJ providing the call. It's also being reported that it'll be available for viewing at WakeForestSports.com on the internet.

We'll have a post-game report later today.

Louisville women's swimming continued the splash-past over the FSU Seminoles yesterday in the Ralph Wright and won the two-day meet 208-143. A great accomplishment for Arthur Albiero's strokers...who will practice diligently until their next pool party in two weeks. They'll hit the H20 in Lexington to drown a few Cats.

  1. Hey Paulie - Nice overview. Looking forward to the game. It turns out that today's game will be webcast on the regular CardTV deal. Thought we were gonna be out of luck on viewing so that's a pleasant surprise.

    Good Luck Cards!

    1. Thank you!

Yeah...I've heard conflicting reports about the TV today but will check it out come game time. I hope they can sync it up with the radio feed. The Pitt contest drove me nuts with the two minutes delay between radio and ESPN3. Upsets galore last week in the ACC. Let's hope we don't become one of them today.

    2. No doubt. With UNC & ND getting beat and Duke at Florida State today it's getting interesting. The Seminoles have a legit shot at knocking Duke off for sure. I like our chances today but I'm sure it will be a war.

Gonna have the kittens taking on SC on ESPN2 at the same time as Duke / Florida State tip off on ESPN3. An hour later our Cards go to it with with Wake Forest on Cards TV. Need more screens. Busy WBB afternoon. I got skin in the game vs Wake Forest as one of my brother's sons graduated from there and he retired to NC so he's pretty sure everything Wake Forest related is perfect. I guess we'll see.

  2. Agree with a wish to hear Local radio feed rather than folks who do not know our players. Yes, Cards TV now finally is promoting today's game as a video broadcast with a audio pre- game available at 1:40.

On games that are in regular broadcast TV I record the game then try to listen to the ongoing taped version so I can try to match up with AJ by starting it a bit late.

This does not seem to work to well since CBS broadcasting took over the Cards TV.
