First half onslaught carries FSU past UofL women's soccer 3-1 -- Sunday CARDINAL COUPLE

THREE GOALS IN FIVE MINUTES DOOM CARDS

For 85 minutes in Lynn Stadium Saturday night, UofL women's soccer stood toe-to-toe with #1 Florida State and gained a 1-0 advantage. Unfortunately for Louisville, soccer is a 90 minute game and a five-minute stretch in the first half produced three Seminole goals that gave them a 3-1 win over the Cards.

Florida State came out firing at the Cards and had three corner attempts in the first five minutes...the Louisville defense held firm but the Cards couldn't get the ball into Seminole territory.

Scores at the eight, eleven and thirteen minute mark by Florida State put the Cards at a huge disadvantage in the first half. Louisville didn't completely fold, though, and the 3-0 'Nole advantage was the halftime score. FSU had a 9-2 shot advantage and 5-1 corner kick edge.

Louisville's defense continued to keep the Seminoles at bay in the final 45 minutes and the Cards got within two when Jill Vetere followed a missed shot-on-goal by Aubrey Baker and sent the loose ball into the net.

FSU had a 16-6 shot advantage for the match. Louisville's Taylor Bucklin engineered five saves.

Two losses to FSU in one day, when you add in the 41-21 loss by the football Cards to the 'Noles in Tallahassee. A great day for the Sunshine State...not so good for the Ville.

Seniors Aubrey Baker, Rachel Avant, Lexie Niedoba and Louisvillians Hannah Konnerman and Casey Whitfield were honored in Senior Day ceremonies before the contest.

Louisville (7-6-2, 3-3-1) has finished their home slate and will end the regular season on the road for three...beginning at #2 Virginia Thursday for a 7 p.m. tilt.

SWIMMING TAKES HUGE WIN

Arthur Albiero's Splash and Stroke Cards swam past the competition in the SMU Classic Saturday night in Dallas, TX.

Louisville amassed 363 points...sixty better than Missouri and UCLA. The Cards did beat FSU in this competiton...as well as SMU and TCU.

The Cards are ranked #9 in the polls and were led by victories in the 200 medely relay, 500 free, 200 breast and Kelsi Worrell's meet record time of 48.61 in the 100 free.

We spoke with Kelsi earlier in the week at the WBB Luncheon (available now on the Soundcloud for The Cardinal Couple Radio Hour) and she spoke of how proud she was of her teammates' accomplishments and how excited she was about their upcoming performances.

Looks like "Kel-Wor" will have a lot to be excited about this season...
