One of my favorite uncles fought in the trenches in WWI. My Dad and both of his brothers fought in WWII. A high school classmate and another friend died in Vietnam.
I'm an Air Force Brat. My father flew cargo planes in WWII. He always said his job was getting toilet paper to the troops. Recalled to the service in 1951, he flew until his retirement in 1965. I believe he loved every minute of it except for the times when he was not home for important family events.
