"E" qualifies for NCAA Championships in Shot Put and Discus -- Saturday Cardinal Couple

EMMONNIE HENDERSON GOING TO OREGON

Don't let the headline scare you.

Emmonnie Henderson is headed to Oregon...but it's to throw the shot put and discus in the NCAA Championships, not to become a Duck or Beaver.

E qualifies for the championships in both events...coming in ninth in the shot put preliminaries and 12th. in the discus over the last two days in the events in Jacksonville, FL.

Five Cardinal women's track and field athletics will try to join "E" in the Northwest today in events at Hodges Stadium

Three Louisville hammer throwers (Caitlin Gilmore, Dolly Nyemah and Rachel Serafin) start the day of events off. Brittany Owens will take part in the triple jump. Maggie Gilbertson competes in the high jump.

(I'm guessing I could be a good hammer-thrower...based on my many failed home-improvement attempts.)

CARDINAL COUPLE RADIO IS ON THE AIR!

We'll discuss track and field along with hoops, volleyball and other UofL women's sports today on our radio show CARDINAL COUPLE HOUR on WCHQ 100.9 FM. The show starts at 11 a.m. and runs until noon.

We also have exclusive interviews with Angel McCoughtry and Shoni Schimmel after their Saturday visit to the KFC YUM! Center last week as a part of the Atlanta Dream team

There just might be a Worldwide quiz you can test your knowledge on and we'll see if Worldwide Jeff can sing Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody from start to finish in Pig Latin. Sam the Dry Weather Intern is on special assignment (and it might rain) so he won't be with us today. There goes the talent part of the show...

It's live, never rehearsed and takes an hour. Join us won't you? Internet link below:

  2. I didn't get to attend the WNBA exhibition last weekend, but a friend who was there told me that Shoni has picked up a lot of weight - he said she's bigger than she was back when she had to spend half the season playing herself into shape. If true, that's a shame - it will shorten her WNBA career for sure.

  3. It's true and it's a defensive liability on a team coached by a defensive guru. That little Princeton guard was blowing by her constantly on Washington offensive sets and runouts.
