Louisville head coach Jeff Walz has announced the addition of Indiana native and Georgia assistant women's basketball coach Cameron Newbauer as a new addition to his staff. Newbauer replaces Michelle Clark-Heard, who was named the head coach at Western Kentucky University. 


"We are thrilled to add the experience and work ethic of Cameron Newbauer to our staff." said Walz. "He is one of the best young assistants in the game whose energy and passion are unparalleled in the coaching industry. He brings a competitive intensity to our program that will engage recruits, bolster player development and enhance our commitment to excellence in the classroom. Cameron is a tireless recruiter who has contributed to numerous top 10 classes in his tenure and there is no doubt he will hit the ground running with our staff this spring." 


Sounds like Walz has found a good one in Newbauer. His younger sister, Andrea, is a junior guard on the Indiana University squad. Here's the Cameron timeline:

Newbauer graduated from Leo High School in Leo, IN. which is near Ft. Wayne. He has a master's degree in recreation and leisure studies from Georgia. In May 2011, Newbauer married the former Sarah Millender, a student assistant for Continuing Education Learning Services at the University of Georgia.

Louisville Lacrosse fell to Loyola, MD 17-8 this afternoon in blustery conditions at the lacrosse stadium on the Belknap Campus. 


"It was a disappointing showing for our squad. Our youth continues to struggle with finding consistency and Loyola took advantage of that from the first draw." -- Louisville head lacrosse coach Kellie Young.

The Cards battled #15 Loyola to a scoreless tie until the 24 minute mark...when the Greyhounds went on a 3-0 run. Louisville's Eleni Kozas stopped the run with her 10th goal of the season. The Greyhound's finished the half with a 8-1 advantage and took a 11-2 lead into the locker room. 


The teams battled pretty evenly in the second half...each scoring six goals. Louisville closed strong with the final five goals of the game. 


Louisville falls to 3-7, 1-2 for the season and will host #13 Georgetown next on Saturday, April 7th. Game time is noon and the first 250 fans in attendance will receive an exclusive Louisville Cardinals water bottle. Admission is free.

2012 Louisville women's basketball signee Megan Deines has been named the Ozark Conference High School Player of the Year. The Glendale (MO) High School senior received the most votes for the first team as well.


Her coach, Renee Temple, received Coach of the Year honors also in the Ozark Conference. 


Deines joins St. Mary's (AZ) Cortnee Walton in Louisville's 2012 class. Monny Niamke, a transfer from Lindsey Wilson College is expected to join the Lady Cards as well when fall practice begins.

Softball plays two games Friday against BIG EAST foe Rutgers at Ulmer Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for noon. 

The Scarlet Knights (16-17, 5-3 BIG EAST) stepped out of conference play Tuesday when they hosted a double-header against Hofstra and lost both...8-2 and 8-0.


Freshman Alyssa Landrith is the pitching ace for Rutgers with 11 wins on the season, six shutouts and a 2.85 ERA.

Senior Brittany Lindley leads at the plate with a .382 batting average. 


Rutgers has won their last five BIG EAST contests after getting off to a slow start in BIG EAST play. 


Louisville (30-2) is 14-0 at Ulmer Stadium this year.

A battered Bobby talk to the media

Current Arkansas head football coach and former Louisville head football coach Bobby Petrino has been placed on administrative leave for the events surrounding a motorcycle crash Sunday. 


Razorback Athletic Director Jeff Long made the move after Petrino admitted he had a passenger on his cycle during the crash.

Jessica Dorrell, 25, was on the motorcycle with Petrino when he laid the motorcycle down in a ditch after losing control because "of the wind and sun". She was not injured in the wreck. She is a former volleyball player at Arkansas and is currently the student-athlete development coordinator for the Arkansas football team. Her duties consist of organizing the recruiting process for the team and determining the initial eligibility for each incoming player. 

Petrino reported Thursday that a passer-by took him and Dorrell to the hospital after the crash. She was not admitted to the hospital and dropped off at her car. Petrino  apologized to his family, the administration and Arkansas football fans for an inappropriate relationship with Dorrell.

Petrino is married and has four children. His youngest daughter Katie is a member of the UofL women's golf team and played softball last year for the Cardinals. 


Long promised a swift and concise decision would follow after all the facts had been  reviewed after the incident. 


Looks like Bobby picked the wrong time to be "Easy Rider" with a beautiful blonde. One thing that we can surmise from the incident is that Petrino probably wasn't scouting out other job opportunities Sunday...at least he didn't leave Dorrell in the ditch. 

Why the cover-up? Dorrell was not mentioned originally in the accident report. Petrino claims he spent Sunday with his wife at a lake and then went for an evening ride after that. Only minutes before Long was to address the media about the accident did Petrino tell Long about Dorrell's presence at the wreck.  


The real victim here might be Becky Petrino, Bobby's wife. One would hope that it's just a case of Dorrell being a family friend and Becky knew in advance about the impending bike ride. With Petrino's admission of inappropriate behavior, though...that seems unlikely. The effect the possible scandal will have on Petrino's children is potentially saddening.


Louisville fans grew weary of Petrino's mis-information on job searches while he was the Cardinal head football coach.


It appears that Bobby might be up to his old tricks again.
