-Lacrosse falls to Loyola, MD 17-8

-Softball squares off for two against Rutgers Friday
-Former UofL football coach Bobby Petrino placed on administrative leave at Arkansas
Louisville head coach Jeff Walz has announced the addition of Indiana native and Georgia assistant women's basketball coach Cameron Newbauer as a new addition to his staff. Newbauer replaces Michelle Clark-Heard, who was named the head coach at Western Kentucky University.
"We are thrilled to add the experience and work ethic of Cameron Newbauer to our staff." said Walz. "He is one of the best young assistants in the game whose energy and passion are unparalleled in the coaching industry. He brings a competitive intensity to our program that will engage recruits, bolster player development and enhance our commitment to excellence in the classroom. Cameron is a tireless recruiter who has contributed to numerous top 10 classes in his tenure and there is no doubt he will hit the ground running with our staff this spring."
Sounds like Walz has found a good one in Newbauer. His younger sister, Andrea, is a junior guard on the Indiana University squad. Here's the Cameron timeline:
April 2012 - accepts Louisville position
2007-2012 - assistant coach at University of Georgia WBB
2005-2007 - director of basketball operations University of Georgia MBB
2004-2005 - assistant coach Siena College MBB
2003-2004 - graduate manager at Georgia MBB
2001-2003 - director of basketball operations Siena College
Newbauer graduated from Leo High School in Leo, IN. which is near Ft. Wayne. He has a master's degree in recreation and leisure studies from Georgia. In May 2011, Newbauer married the former Sarah Millender, a student assistant for Continuing Education Learning Services at the University of Georgia.
Welcome to the 'Ville', Cameron and Sarah! Congratulations on joining the Cardinal family and enjoy the best college sports town in America!

Louisville Lacrosse fell to Loyola, MD 17-8 this afternoon in blustery conditions at the lacrosse stadium on the Belknap Campus.
"It was a disappointing showing for our squad. Our youth continues to struggle with finding consistency and Loyola took advantage of that from the first draw." -- Louisville head lacrosse coach Kellie Young.
The Cards battled #15 Loyola to a scoreless tie until the 24 minute mark...when the Greyhounds went on a 3-0 run. Louisville's Eleni Kozas stopped the run with her 10th goal of the season. The Greyhound's finished the half with a 8-1 advantage and took a 11-2 lead into the locker room.
The teams battled pretty evenly in the second half...each scoring six goals. Louisville closed strong with the final five goals of the game.
Louisville falls to 3-7, 1-2 for the season and will host #13 Georgetown next on Saturday, April 7th. Game time is noon and the first 250 fans in attendance will receive an exclusive Louisville Cardinals water bottle. Admission is free.

2012 Louisville women's basketball signee Megan Deines has been named the Ozark Conference High School Player of the Year. The Glendale (MO) High School senior received the most votes for the first team as well.
Her coach, Renee Temple, received Coach of the Year honors also in the Ozark Conference.
Deines joins St. Mary's (AZ) Cortnee Walton in Louisville's 2012 class. Monny Niamke, a transfer from Lindsey Wilson College is expected to join the Lady Cards as well when fall practice begins.

Softball plays two games Friday against BIG EAST foe Rutgers at Ulmer Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
The Scarlet Knights (16-17, 5-3 BIG EAST) stepped out of conference play Tuesday when they hosted a double-header against Hofstra and lost both...8-2 and 8-0.
Freshman Alyssa Landrith is the pitching ace for Rutgers with 11 wins on the season, six shutouts and a 2.85 ERA.
Senior Brittany Lindley leads at the plate with a .382 batting average.
Rutgers has won their last five BIG EAST contests after getting off to a slow start in BIG EAST play.
Louisville (30-2) is 14-0 at Ulmer Stadium this year.

A battered Bobby talk to the media |
Razorback Athletic Director Jeff Long made the move after Petrino admitted he had a passenger on his cycle during the crash.
Was Dorrell helping Bobby switch gears? |
Petrino reported Thursday that a passer-by took him and Dorrell to the hospital after the crash. She was not admitted to the hospital and dropped off at her car. Petrino apologized to his family, the administration and Arkansas football fans for an inappropriate relationship with Dorrell.
Louisville's womens golf team begins play today in the Bryan National Collegiate Tournament in Brown Summit, NC. It is not known yet if Katie Petrino made the trip. |
Long promised a swift and concise decision would follow after all the facts had been reviewed after the incident.
Looks like Bobby picked the wrong time to be "Easy Rider" with a beautiful blonde. One thing that we can surmise from the incident is that Petrino probably wasn't scouting out other job opportunities Sunday...at least he didn't leave Dorrell in the ditch.
Why the cover-up? Dorrell was not mentioned originally in the accident report. Petrino claims he spent Sunday with his wife at a lake and then went for an evening ride after that. Only minutes before Long was to address the media about the accident did Petrino tell Long about Dorrell's presence at the wreck.
The real victim here might be Becky Petrino, Bobby's wife. One would hope that it's just a case of Dorrell being a family friend and Becky knew in advance about the impending bike ride. With Petrino's admission of inappropriate behavior, though...that seems unlikely. The effect the possible scandal will have on Petrino's children is potentially saddening.
Louisville fans grew weary of Petrino's mis-information on job searches while he was the Cardinal head football coach.
It appears that Bobby might be up to his old tricks again.

Nice sugar coating of the Petrino incident, CARDINAL COUPLE. Let's just call this what it is. Petrino hires beautiful, half his age blonde to work for him. She probably didn't spend all her time going over transcripts. Petrino takes her for a ride. Probably in more ways than one. Petrino gets caught. I hope Arkansas fires his unfaithful a$$ and the bimbo too.

We will not speculate that their were any improprieties between Petrino and Dorrell. We'll wait for the full story. What does bother us is that Petrino originally reported he was alone on the motorcycle and lied to the authorities and his boss about the incident.

LOL at bitter UK fans. Good word CARDINAL COUPLE, I enjoy reading your UN-BIASED articles. GO CARDS.
DeleteYou can pick your guitar but you can't pick your parents. Heart goes out to Katie Petrino. Had the chance to play golf behind her foursome last summer. Got to talk to her a few times while waiting to tee off. A very intelligent and pleasant young lady.

This coaching hire by Jeff Walz is a little surprising. Figured he'd bring aboard someone with a closer connection to the Cards program. But, Walz has done wonderful things here at Louisville and you can never have enough good recruiters.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the Petrino incident goes, the Arkansas fans have a dilemma now. Back and support someone who has improved their football program or turn on a lying philanderer?
We know how UofL reacted in a similar situation a few years back. It's an administrative call. I wager Bobby still has a job when the final review is completed.

I don't think you can compare the Pitino and Petrino incidents as apples to apples, Larry. Different circumstances, different results and no injuries or coverups in Rick's case. I do like a comment I read at an Arkansas site:
Delete(In the words of Hank Hill) "Dammit, Bobby!"
LOL

As a University of Georgia fan, I can assure you that you are getting a bonus in Cameron Neubauer. We will be less of a team without him.

A "hog" on a hog. Priceless! As part of his penance, Petrino should have to do public safety commercials about wearing a helmet when motorcycle riding. I turned one over back when I used to ride and still have scars on my left leg and a shoulder that doesn't always work correctly. I don't want to think what might have happened if I hadn't been wearing my helmet.
ReplyDeleteI am a student at UA and find it funny how obsessed you UofL fans are about a coach you haven't had in six years. I like your site here, though and will come back to read UofL women's basketball articles. There's another thing. We have your former women's basketball coach, too. Louisville is the minor leagues for coaching it seems. WOOO PIG SOOIE!
ReplyDeleteHarry Hog Man, Fayetteville
I doubt you'll find many UofL fans who would trade Charlie Strong and Jeff Walz for Bobby Petrino and Tom Collen these days, Harry.
DeleteI did travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas in 2010 to watch Louisville play Arkansas State in football. My only trip to your state. Had a good time and met Flip! I don't think that, based on what I saw there. Louisville is 'minor league' to your state in anything. Except cotton, maybe.
Have a great Easter weekend!
Sonja
Nice!
